Briggs Residence

The Briggs Residence is a 11,546-square-foot new construction residence in Mantua, UT,
completed in March 2025. The design process began in September 2024 with a focus on
designing a home with a blend of Colonial and country styles. A hobbit style guest house was
designed on the hillside of the property.

Situated in a valley, our clients wanted a layout that is created for functionality, large gatherings,
recreational activities, and spaces for guests to stay in whether that be family or friends. It was
imperative to maximize the views of the mountains, creating a breathtaking backdrop in many of
the spaces in the home. Our clients also needed a space for an indoor shop/sports court, creating
a space for work and play, but also for large family gatherings. We wanted to design a home that
would last for many years to come and for the finishes, trimwork, materials, etc. to age well and
have a timeless look.

The style of this home was a mix of colonial and country style home. This is reflected with the
symmetry, brick exterior, large wrap around porches, detailed millwork, black shutters, subtle
curved details, and the barn style shop.
The main level features a foyer that opens up to the music room and great room. The great room
has large windows looking out towards the back of the property and mountains in the
background. It also opens up to the kitchen, dining room, and stair hall. The kitchen is fully
equipped with luxurious appliances, an oversized sink with a wall of windows, and a hidden
passthrough to the pantry for larger kitchen appliances like a kitchen aid. A breakfast nook is
tucked away in the back of the kitchen and pantry for overflow seating. The laundry room has
ample storage and workspace for laundry and sewing. To the left of the foyer are the quieter and
private spaces in the home. A home office with large built-ins and windows provide a space for
work and study. The master bedroom has a fireplace and reading nook with large windows that
point towards the mountains. The master bath has a large tub and walk-in shower opening to a
large closet with an island and stackable washer/dryer unit.
The upper level gives a great accommodation for guests with several guest bedrooms, family
room and exercise room. Over the garage is an apartment dwelling unit for visitors that may stay
for the longer term.
Just on the left side of the property on the hillside, we designed a hobbit house with a living
room, small kitchen and dining area, bunk room, study area and bedroom. Creating a fun retreat
for guests at the home.

It was very important for us to maximize the views of the mountains. With this in mind, we
needed to carefully consider the orientation of the home, layout of the rooms to give specific
spaces the best views, and the placement of the windows. Originally the detached barn/shop was
on the right side of the home, but we found that the barn/shop had the best views. So we moved
the shop to the left side of the home. Now the master suite, great room, family room, and the
kitchen/dining areas had the best views of the mountains.

We were able to successfully meet the needs and vision of our clients. Their home caters to their
lifestyle, spaces for large family gatherings, workspaces, and guest rooms to accommodate for
family and friends. We created a residence that is timeless. This reflected through the colonial
and country style that our clients chose for their home. The specific spaces that our clients
wanted us to maximize that beautiful views of the mountains have the best views in their home.
