Pickleball Barn
Overview:
Pickleball Barn is a 10,000-square-foot accessory building in Midway, UT. The concept focused on creating a space for pickleball, storage, and gatherings. The design blended rustic mountain style with a functional layout, featuring materials that reflect the character of the surrounding area.
Project Goals:
The client requested an indoor pickleball court, a great room, a kitchen, storage areas, a playroom with a foam pit, and an office—all within a single structure. Achieving these features while meeting budget requirements was central to the project’s objectives.
Design and Implementation:
Wood siding, stone, wood columns, beams, and a metal roof established the barn’s rustic appeal and allowed it to blend with the Utah mountains. Inside, exposed wood trusses created a warm atmosphere and reinforced the desired barn aesthetic. The design team coordinated with the structural engineer, adjusting interior walls and adding a pre-tension slab for the pickleball court area. These updates ensured that all elements worked together as intended.
Close communication with the interior designer kept the process on track. Feedback and revisions maintained alignment between the client’s preferences and the budget, leading to thoughtful decisions about layout and materials. The final plans balanced aesthetics, durability, and practicality.
Challenges:
Structural requirements prompted changes to interior walls. The team responded by collaborating with the engineer, reviewing each modification, and ensuring that the building remained sound and true to the initial vision. Through steady coordination, the project successfully addressed these hurdles.
Outcome:
Pickleball Barn provided the client with a distinctive, purpose-driven structure. The chosen materials and exposed trusses evoked a welcoming barn atmosphere, while the integrated pickleball court, entertaining areas, and storage spaces met the client’s needs. This addition to the property stands as an example of designing a building that complements its setting and fulfills the owner’s goals.
