Canyon Crest

Overview:

Canyon Crest is a 13,090-square-foot new-build residence set in Signal Mountain, TN. The design documents and roofline development were guided by a mountain modern aesthetic, aligning the home with the surrounding natural setting. Working closely with the client and the builder, the team refined each aspect of the structure and its interior layout.

Project Goals:

The client needed a full set of construction documents based on their initial home design and requested adjustments to the roofline. They sought a clear, buildable plan that would integrate the home’s overall look with the site’s topography. The team’s objective was to provide precise documentation that would streamline the construction process, ensuring the home met the client’s expectations and complemented the scenic backdrop.

Design and Implementation:

Canyon Crest’s style took inspiration from a mountain modern approach. The design included large windows in the great room and an expansive deck, both oriented toward impressive views. A monochromatic color palette and natural materials helped the structure blend with its mountainous surroundings. The project’s scope included producing all construction documents and renderings, working in direct coordination with the owner and builder to incorporate constructability adjustments as needed.

Challenges:

The site’s slope presented a key challenge. The team had to flip the house layout, leading to changes in the basement floor plan and the relocation of certain rooms. Through close collaboration with the owner, these modifications were addressed promptly, ensuring the design remained true to the home’s intended character while accommodating the terrain.

Outcome:

Canyon Crest’s construction documents and final layouts reflected a high standard of quality. The client remarked on the superior clarity of these documents compared to past experiences. The completed plans positioned the home to achieve the client’s vision of a mountain modern residence that respects its natural setting and offers remarkable views. The result was a cohesive, thoroughly planned project that balanced the owner’s initial design concepts with practical site considerations.
