Aspen Ridge
Overview:
Aspen Ridge is a new-build, mountain modern residence located within the Marcilla Club Tiger Woods golf course in Park City, Utah. It is designed as a ski-in/ski-out retreat on a prominent slope. Encompassing 9,137 square feet, the home’s design began in March 2024. Its form and materials were selected to suit a high-profile location that overlooks a popular ski run, offering both dramatic visibility and direct access to outdoor recreation.
Project Goals:
The clients envisioned a spacious, luxurious home that could comfortably host large gatherings. Their priorities included a direct connection to the ski slopes, a generous exercise room, a sauna, an expansive master suite, four additional bedrooms, and an office. The home needed to feel modern, refined, and fully aligned with the clients’ vision of a showpiece property.
Design and Implementation:
The design embraced a mountain modern style, featuring steel cantilevers and minimal columns to maintain clean lines and open views. Low-slope shed roofs were engineered with a thick metal fascia to achieve a sleek profile. The exterior palette combined premium cedar tongue-and-groove planks, dark porcelain pavers, and iron ore–colored metal cladding. Each selection reflected a commitment to high-quality finishes, while large window openings and a custom vertical wood plank pivot door created a striking entry. The architectural team orchestrated a comprehensive collaboration with structural, mechanical, civil, and other engineering consultants to ensure that all elements harmonized with the demanding slope and climate conditions. Regular weekly meetings during schematic design ensured that the evolving plans matched the clients’ ambitions, resulting in a fully customized home shaped around their lifestyle.
Challenges:
A key challenge was fitting a large luxury home onto a limited building envelope. The design team balanced site restrictions, ski-slope orientation, and driveway placement. The sloped terrain required careful thought so the driveway would not become uncomfortably steep. This involved close coordination with engineers and a careful review of structural steel requirements, leading to thoughtful value engineering that minimized excess materials without diminishing quality.
Outcome:
Aspen Ridge exemplifies a high-end, tailor-made home that resonates with the client’s goals. The final design created an ideal setting for entertaining, exercising, and relaxing in an environment that integrates effortlessly with the outdoors. The residence’s position on the slope, along with its distinctive materials and balanced proportions, has established it as an architectural focal point. The process, guided by close client involvement and a commitment to quality, delivered a residence that captures the essence of mountain modern living in Park City.
