SIERRA HEAVEN
Overview:
Sierra Haven is a 10,000-square-foot new-build residence in Lehi, UT. The project began with a set of client-created floor plans that required alignment and a cohesive exterior. The goal was to establish a transitional style blending modern and traditional elements, ultimately preparing the design for entry into the Parade of Homes.
Project Goals:
The client’s main goal was to refine their initial floor plans so that each level worked together both structurally and visually. They also wanted a design that harmonized with the exterior and created a unified look suitable for showcasing. The desire for a transitional style allowed for a combination of modern lines, darker tones, and brick with traditional trim details, resulting in a refined yet inviting home.
Design and Implementation:
The team approached the challenge by transforming the client’s floor plans into a fully integrated design. This process included adjusting layouts to ensure that each floor aligned properly, introducing decks for outdoor enjoyment, and highlighting key features like large windows along the staircase and front deck. The client’s preference for a darker exterior palette influenced material choices and detailing, leading to a visually striking front elevation.
Regular meetings and 3D presentations were key, showing the client how changes to the interior influenced the exterior. The ability to visualize adjustments helped the client appreciate the design decisions and move the process forward smoothly. The team’s roles were clearly defined: Michael focused on modeling, drafting, and designing the roof line, while Brad contributed to exterior modeling and renderings, ensuring that the client’s ideas were accurately realized.
Challenges:
A main challenge was the need to merge the client’s initial floor plans into a unified design that worked dimensionally and aesthetically. By collaborating closely with the client and utilizing 3D models, these issues were resolved. Another goal was creating a home visually suitable for the Parade of Homes, which required a careful balance of style and practicality.
Outcome:
Sierra Haven represents a successful collaboration that turned the client’s initial concepts into a refined, cohesive design. The use of transitional style elements, strategic deck placement, and distinctive front elevation features delivered the look and functionality desired. The home’s design was accepted into the Parade of Homes, reflecting its alignment with the client’s vision. Although construction timing prevented it from being fully showcased, the completed plans stand as a valuable example of how careful coordination, 3D visualization, and open communication lead to a thoughtfully designed custom home.
