Lakeside Eco
Overview:
Lakeside Eco is a 6,801-square-foot new construction residence in Genola, UT, completed in October 2024. The design process began in July 2024 and focused on shaping a home that blends modern and traditional elements. Situated on a flat, expansive property, the home was carefully planned to create functional, open spaces that complement the clients’ lifestyle.
Project Goals:
The clients sought a layout that encourages an easy flow between spaces intended for entertaining, work, wellness, and play. They wished to include features such as a tall garage bay designed to accommodate an RV, along with an area suitable for pickleball. Additionally, they needed a “drop room” and secured storage accessible from the garage to support their passion for hunting.
Design and Implementation:
The overall concept combined English country influences with modern accents, resulting in a balanced style that feels both timeless and current. The main floor includes a welcoming foyer with a staircase and arched opening leading into the great room. The great room, kitchen, and dining area open to each other, encouraging gatherings and daily family interactions.
The upper level hosts a salon near the laundry room, several bedrooms, a large toy/game room, and a theater area. Externally, materials were chosen to achieve a palette of whites, grays, and black to harmonize with the home’s classical details. Stucco, vertical siding, hardie boards, stone, and roof accents in shingle and metal finishes contribute to a balanced exterior design. Symmetry and careful placement of materials help draw attention to the entry and establish the home’s presence.
Challenges:
Incorporating the tall, RV-friendly garage while maintaining a cohesive look required thoughtful adjustments. The design team lowered the plate height and introduced a vaulted ceiling in the RV garage. This allowed the bedrooms above to include egress windows without compromising the structure’s visual integrity.
Outcome:
Lakeside Eco successfully met the clients’ vision, providing a residence that encourages comfortable living and recreation. The symmetrical front entry, classical trimwork on hardie bumpouts, and timeless blend of traditional and modern details give the home a distinctive character. Weekly meetings ensured that client feedback guided refinements, resulting in a design that aligns with their requirements and preferences. With ample space, a welcoming flow, and well-integrated amenities, Lakeside Eco stands as a home that embraces both function and style.
